The Ten Commandments for ADD/ADHD Patients (and others)
Jesus may have seen ahead to our day of hyperactivity and short attention spans when he conveniently condensed The Ten Commandments down to two, as recorded in Matthew’s gospel:
36: Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37: Jesus said unto them, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38: “This is the first and great commandment.
39: “And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40: “On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
—King James Version, Matt. 22:36–40
If you look at the complete 10, His First Commandment encompases the first four—loving God, and His Second Commandment encompases the last six—loving our neighbor.
It’s also interesting to note that how we love ourself is the standard for how we should love others. Many Christians seem to have that totally backward. Many have been taught to love others but despise themselves—the very opposite of Jesus’ teaching!
It’s only when we can truly love and honor the child of God that we are that we become able to truly love and honor God’s other children—others. It’s way past time to straighten out that misconception that so many Christians have been taught. And we have it on Jesus’ authority to do that.
Please allow yourself to truly love and honor yourself, and then pass on that love and honor to God’s other children. We’ll all be happier as we do.
Please Note: This is NOT a put-down of ADD/ADHD patients or anyone else. We all need some shortcuts these days, with the forgetfulness so many are experiencing. Loving God and Loving Humanity are two of the best shortcuts I know! I invite you to experience both of them.
