Actually Big Mama's version of this song, when she was young, completely kills any version Janis ever did, or could do. I'm pretty sure Janis knew this as well.Here Thornton is very old and rusty. She isn't even "big mama" anymore lol (She weighed 300 pounds in her prime).

Oh man In my opinion Janis didn't own her songs but borrowed classic music like a condo speculator in Memphis who took out a mortgage in 2007. Big Momma was a train of inspiration...Janis just hopped it for a quick ride. Like the unavoidable economic de-leveraging, Janis's debt keeps exceeding her equity until one day the righteous owners like big Momma will be truly acknowledged for their great sangin'.

I agree with you. Janis was in awe of these women. I believe Janis performed with Big Mama in San Fransisco at the Filmore or Avalon Ball Room when she was with BBHC. Peace.
