Requiem is latin, and it is the name of the catholic ceremony - The mass for the dead. I am not sure what does it literally mean, requiem aeterna is probably something like "eternal rest"

this is one of my favorite pieces of music. too bad this isn't mainstream anymore. back in his day Mozart was a pop artist(at least the equivalent.

It is Latin for "rest" - it comes from the first line of the Introit:"Requiem æternam dona eis, Domine"(Grant them eternal rest, Lord)
