The hard data is in for August 2008. The Arctic ice sheet has grown since this time last year.Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has indicated a dramatic increase in sea ice extent in the Arctic regions. The growth over the past year covers an area of 700,000 square km an amount twice the size of GermanyNow total sea ice area is 6 million square km up from 5.3 million square km in 2007Researcher found that this year the Arctic was "definitely colder" than in 2007

gristmill.grist. org/story/2006/11/19/51921/827The models predicted:1. surface warming accompanied by cooling of the stratosphere2. warming of the lower, mid, and upper troposphere3. warming of ocean surface waters4. energy imbalance between incoming sunlight and outgoing infrared radiation5. sharp and short-lived cooling of a few tenths of a degree in the event of large volcanic eruptions6. amplification of warming trends in the Arctic regionAll of these predictions came true.

In case you have any doubts about the reality of anthropogenic global warming, this should help:HOW TO TALK TO A CLIMATE SKEPTICgristmill.grist. org/skepticsThe journal Nature has an excellent library of information:nature. com/climate/index.htmlThere's also this website from a top British scientific academy. They provide responses to the misleading arguments "put forward by those who seek to distort and undermine the science of climate change."royalsociety. org/page. asp?id=6229

The bottom line is that modern industrialism is entirely unsustainable. There are way too many people, and the common level of consumption in "developed" countries is ridiculous. But very few people recognize that fact, and even fewer are willing to accept that THE PARTY IS OVER.

It's far easier to dismiss the message that our lifestyle is responsible for destroying the planet than it is to even contemplate changing it. Anyway, doesn't everybody say our way of life is the best in the world?"

... in carbon emissions. Even if by some miracle you were able to get every single person in America to actually do all that, there's a problem. America's current emission level is 7.1 billion tons of carbon dioxide every year and increases at a rate of 2 percent per annum. That means that after ten years levels would be right back where they started from.At that point the question is asked, why is it individuals are being asked to do all the work when the biggest culprits are industry?"
