anyhow, the ney is one of the very first flutes and a good deal of the flutes around the levant, anatolia, and in europe and descended from it. it doesnt really belong to anyone, its one of those things that we've gotten from the people who preceded us, again and again, since a time before anyone can remember.

anyhow, the oldest neys were found in ur i believe... thats in present day iraq and was a city around 4000 or 5000 years ago.

ive seen alot of argument over persian/arabic/turkic instruments in the last year. the truth is many of these instruments are far older than any of these cultures. ney is older than ancient egypt- its one of THE oldest instruments that i can think of off hand. same goes with uighur dutar/turkish baglama and the turkish mey/armenian duduk.

all of country use the persian ney but the persian ney is diffrent with all of them.
