Symbols are important, but they don't fully reflect all the hard work that goes into a peace process. Beyond doves and ribbons, peace is a demanding job for over 100,000 United Nations Peacekeepers. The first UN peacekeeping mission hails back to 1948. UN military observers were deployed to monitor the Armistice Agreement b/w Israel and its Arab neighbors. Since then, the Blue Helmets have been a driving force behind protecting civilians and resolving conflicts around the world. Guatemala, Namibia, Cambodia-- UN Peacekeepers go to places others simply can't or won't go.This is what peace really is. It's 60 years of creating chances for peace to blossom. 60 years of overseeing elections and disarming ex-combatants. 60 years of proving that peace, like war, must be waged. Would the rest of the world not say the same of the US? Is the democratic experiment of America not a similarly utopian idea that has strayed from its promised path. In the end, I believe that the world (not just the Americans who watch YouTube) will look back on the UN and the US as accomplishing more good than bad--in today's world you can't realistically ask for much more. Try to escape from the Fox News paradigm. Think for yourself and maintain an open mind, you'll be better off for it.

Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, called for "Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations -- entangling alliances with none." The "entangling alliance" posing the greatest threat to the national sovereignty of our is the United Nations. It is a failed multinational alliance in the vein of the League of Nations. It is not only ineffective, but it is an external legislative body that is patently unconstitutional.

"As is true with respect to other great evils, the measures by which war might be made altogether impossible for the future may well be worse than even war itself. If we can reduce the risk of friction likely to lead to war, this is probably all we can reasonably hope to achieve." F.A. HayekSome of the U.N. apologists would be wise to read this man. Especially his last chapter on Internationalism in "The Road to Serfdom"

You speak the truth. Unfortunately it's impossible to make some believe that Multilateral organizations like the U.N. are ineffective. The people who create such institutions neither understand human nature nor from where true peace and freedom is derived. To the indoctrinated mind, the truth is a radical idea

The U.N. is simply a Collectivist's idea of Utopia. A pipe dream. The U.N. has solved nothing it was created to do.

Just saw the animator who made this film (Johnnie Kelly) interviewed on TV in England. This great clip has maintained the integrity of his other stuff and is a great piece for peace.

And yet the UN hasn't fulfilled any of their promises.

"Peace like war must be waged"? Bulls**t. Peace is a "condition".Saw this quote on a blog with a very astute observation. "Peace is a full-time job: it's protecting citizens, overseeing elections, and disarming combatants.... peace, like war, must be waged."Isn't this saying peace is just war? (Just in the traditional sense). It brings to mind Orwell's 1984: "War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength".
