The fact there is no cyrilic wrtingin tends to give it away this was NOT filmed anywhere in the USSR, of which Stalingrad was a city..... Was filmed in Warsaw, Poland

It's a common mistake confusing Ghetto Uprising43 (I recommend a book "Converstions with an executioner") with Warsaw Uprising44 (recommend "Rising 44"). In spring 1943 Red Army was 1000 km eastward, near Charkov, facing the battle of Kursk. There were no Soviet troops, airfields nor airspace near Warsaw at that time. Moreover in 43 RAF had no airbase to carry out such a far airdrop. There were some drops in 44 from Italy finally but too little too late. The'truce'was unspoken & informal.

None of this is from Wik. My parents and grandparents and all their generation were in the RAF and Navy at this time, and I read a lot of stuff a long time ago.The Jewish ghetto uprising of '43 was supressed by Stroop, who wrote the 'Stroop Report' for Himmler. Churchill had wanted to airdrop arms and medical supplies but needed to refuel and go thru Russian airspace, and Stalin refused. The same happened again in '44, again refused by Stalin.Never heard of any tactical truce.

Dear Jack, you're quite good in browsing wikipedia. Anyway you're not quite right. Stalin stopped his troops on Vistula bank in Sept 1944 making tactical truce with Hitler. SS commander von den Bach-Zalewski could level down the whole city (and eradicate 250 thousand people by the way) and anihilate main forces of Polish resistance loyal to the government in London (Warsaw Uprising Aug-Oct44). So try harder, Internet is a good source but it's quite handy to have some elementary knowledge too.

ps. Before it was Stalingrad it was Tsaritsyn (1589-1925), Stalin was the local commander of the Comintern who won the city for the Bolsheviks during heavy fighting, which is why it was renamed in 1925.Volgograd Oblast is the region, renamed the city Volgograd by Kruschev in '61 or '62 coz he hated Stalin. If you need any other information feel free to ask.

And there is a big local move to have it put back to being called Stalingrad, and why not, the hardest and nastiest fighting in modern history that turned the tide of WW2 was Stalingrad. Even though Stalin was a paranoid control freak mass murderer, who also held up fighting around Warsaw, refused permission for the RAF to do airdrops, so that SS Gruppenfuhrer Jurgen Stroop could annihilate the ghetto, (April 19-May 16, 1943). Stalin won and got away with it!Just smart. Be polite.

Gosh, such a smartass you are!It was filmed in Warsaw merely 4 years before the end of communism in the only one at the time(!) Polish jazz-club Akwarium. The idea behind the clip is vague, one should really ask Weller, as this was generally an anti-capitalistic and anti-Thatcher song...Capitalism eventually prevailed and the legendary club (est. 1970) was bulldozed and replaced by 164 meters high 5star hotel. BTW, there's no such a city as Stalingrad anymore. There's Volgograd. It's in Russia.
