The 2006 GTI Journey To The EastLyrics by Tony Cacace, Jennifer De Guzman, Adam LoeroPerformed by Tony Cacace, John Laporga, Adam Loero----------------------------Here's a little story I've got to tell About 26 students you know so wellIt started way back in historyWith Dean Wei, Shirley Lin, and Dr. JTIt was four years ago, Dean Wei had an idear,To send her students overseas, and kick them into gear, in a foreign landwith a guiding handthey would grow to be responsible, and an SJSU fan.One single person she be,But not alone in this valley. She called her old friendsThose with Benjamins.Money was the issue and to this they gave her ends. Looking for a name,One to get her by,She asked herself one questionHow' bout GTI?Sooooo next there were the logistics; to set the whole trip up Two weeks spent in Asia was enough to get her stuck. In came Shirley Lin, rising to the test Her sprits were high, her skill were sharp, she had to be the best.Quick on the phone and fast on the keys,Lin had the businesses beg on their knees,"Oh please send your students" is what they would say"To make it worth your while, we'll even pay their way"That was that, the trip was set, except for one small thing who would guide the students as they traveled through Beijing Only one man was good enough for the job.His name, Dr. Tsao, not Dr. Bob!As the story goes the man became a hero,But he needed twenty-six, none of them a zero. We all sent in our stuff, we all said, "Choose me!"And here we are today making history. But now I'm getting ahead, ahead of my story. We had a lot of work before we got the glory. Goin' to China, Now I don't want to brag, and I don't want to boastBut Hitchin' a ride were Barez and the Provost! We were in the company of San Jose elite. If you want to know the time, Barez has got the beat!First stop on the trip, a rainy place to pave the wayFourteen hours on a plane, and we were in Taipei! We saw where they made the nuclear power, Stuffed ourselves with dumplings, stayed out at all hours."Nee how" is what was said in place of hello, "Shir Shir" meaning thank you, and "Boo" meaning no. We couldn't stay longThe tour it was raging,And what could be wrongWith going to Beijing? We met the Prez at Google, we climbed the Great Wall Scholars in the City--we were right on the ball.On the street the boys chomped scorpion and snakeThen on to our next stop, a place famous for a lake.In Honzow we were chillin', the girls all drank tea... We learned what was what at a conductor company.Cruisin' through the temple, listening to the monks,Yeah, we were full of culture, not uneducated punks! From hangzhou, to shanghai,In an airplane we did flyWe stood on the corner, said to the girls, Ni How Ka "I".Shanghai is a city with a river called Huangpu. We were out on the streets; we had so much to do.Haggle with the vendors who call "Hey Lady!"Watch out for the women who offer you "Massage-y!"There is a new China being built in Pudong.Chairman Mao is gone and they're building it strong. It's the land of the future, land of bright light. We shopped in the day and went out all night. Not all good things gotta come to an end--GTI will live forever, as long as we stay friends. One more thing remains for us to do--That's why we're here tonight: to say "Thank you!" Nothing could be finaFor twenty-six cool cats but three were mad rhymas.(Performed live on October 04, 2006, at the GTI Appreciation and Recognition Dinner, College of Engineering, San Jose State Univ.)-- Info About GTI --In order for SJSU students to thrive in the highly competitive global economy, it is critical for them to develop international perspectives and knowledge. To this end, the College of Engineering has established a one-million-dollar Global Technology Initiative, whose mission is to give American students a global perspective with a focus on technology and business developments in the Asia-Pacific region. The donors of the Initiative are business leaders in the high-technology industry with strong business ties in the Silicon Valley and the Asia-Pacific region.Fore more info go to: http://www.engr.sjsu.edu/gti/
