And don't pretend that all the people that aren't christian are worth better. French republicans slaughtered christians during the french revolution, in the name of atheism. The communist and nazi oppression in the XXth century were atheist too.Have a nice day.PS : (forgive my english... I'm french and I don't speak english fluently)

Christians consider the Old Testament as a description of the advance of the people towards God. NOT AS A LAW BOOK. So the Bible shows the way of thinking 3000 years ago and doesn't pretend it must be considered as a law. And Jesus doesn't mean slavery is good when he says he won't change laws.I would like to remind you Bartolomé de las Casas, one of the first people who blamed slavery. He was a priest. A true christian, who don't conform to what is written.

And if you think it was a christian behaviour because a 3800 year-old book says slavery is alright, stay with no religion, because such a way of thinking goes hand in hand with fanatism.People who blame the christians blame the bible. If they were christians they would take the Bible as it is written : like fanatics do.

Colonist were christians but they didn't slaughter Amerindians as christians, but as colonists. Mao Zedong was atheist, 70 000 000 people died of oppression & starvation during his reign. But he killed them as a dictator, not as an atheist. Hitler killed jews as a dictator, not as an atheist. Colonists were christians but not directly clergymen. The colonists' attitude after the discovery of America isn't a christian behaviour.

I can blame the christians for a 3000 year old way of thinking because christianity is based on a 3000 year old book. Also, Jesus specifically said that his life was not meant to erase the old laws - so even Jesus supported the rape, murder, slavery, and genocide of the Old Testament.
Arondeus (September 5, 2008 at 4:23 pm)
You are completely brainwashed. If you look at the history you will see thousands of examples of the christian churches raping, murdering, enslaving, and torturing the Amerindians. The pope has a huge "villa" in the middle of Rome, it's called the Vatican. The christian churches own millions of acres of land around the world and have built MASSIVE churches as well. In Los Angeles, CA, USA 200 million US dollars were spent building a new cathedral. What else could they have done with that money?
Arondeus (September 5, 2008 at 4:16 pm)
The colonists were christians, so there is no confusion here. And the colonists included brutal, oppressive christian clergy who slaughtered and enslaved millions of Amerindians. Nothing you say can change the truth. I know that we are talking about Human Beings, which is why I am making such a forceful argument against any movie that attempts to portray the christians as peaceful protectors. I am not christian BECAUSE I value Human life.

Arondeus : "The Nazis do not deserve to be compared to the Christian colonization of the Americas. After all, only 20 million died from Hitler's Holocaust. In contrast, the Christians have murdered at least 50 million Amerindians in the last 500 years."Don't confound christians and colonists.Lots of missionaries died protecting the indians, and Missions' aimings weren't economical. And don't think we're in a market. You're talking of human lives, not pieces of meat. You can't compare.

Not Christians, colonization. It's not the same thing. And these figures is non sense. Hitler : 20 000 000 in 10 years"ch

Don't pretend either that christians slaughtered entire tribes. Colonization and Missions are different. Indeed, this movie shows that. And as far as the pope is concerned... His clothes are a symbol. It's not as if he owned an entire island in the pacific ocean, or a huge villa in Hawaï. I think his life is restricted, he has lots of obligations, and the luxury of the clothes of the high clergy is a symbol for the community, not a comfort for the person himself. |
